Save Family Farming Executive Director, Ben Tindall, issued the following statement in response to President Trump’s recent comments addressing the growing crisis facing farmworkers and the stability of American agriculture:

PRESS STATEMENT – June 19, 2025

“President Trump has finally admitted what farmers have known for months—this immigration crisis is threatening the very survival of American farms. His vague comment that “Changes are coming” is not a solution. Washington’s family farmers are calling for more than just another empty promise while farming communities are being pushed to the brink. We’re calling for action.

“Let’s be clear: one of the great tragedies of this moment is that fear is being instigated by all sides. Activist groups are stoking panic in immigrant communities, warning that families are unsafe from federal raids and arrests. Meanwhile, the federal government is fueling uncertainty with confusing and, at times, contradictory messages—offering no clear answers, only more questions and growing fear. Who pays the price and is caught in the crosshairs of all of this? The people who grow and harvest our food and the farms that hold rural America together.

“We must call out the fear and demand clarity. Countless farmworkers are living with the constant threat of being targeted by federal agents and possibly torn from their homes, their families, and their livelihoods while doing honest, essential work. Farm employers are holding their breath, trying to keep operations afloat without knowing whether their workforce will show up tomorrow—or stay away for fear of a raid. This is not just chaos. It is cruelty. It is failure. It is unacceptable. It must end. But it won’t end with relentless talk, name-calling, scare tactics, or empty promises.

“We demand immediate, decisive action. No more political games. No more cowardice. The administration and Congress must sit down with farmworker advocates and agricultural leaders to craft immigration policies that actually protect the people and communities feeding this country.

“We are done waiting. If those in power care at all about family farms, about food security, about the dignity of work—then prove it. Fix this. Stand up. Lead. Before it’s too late.

“No more fear. No more excuses. The future of farming in America depends on what our leaders do right now.”
